The new Liberty House building; the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, and Restoration of St Mel’s Cathedral, are among the 36 projects shortlisted for this year’s Irish Architecture Awards, which were announced this week by The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland [RIAI]. The list also includes Rosie Hackett Bridge; Dalkey Heritage Centre & Town Hall; Athlone Community College, and the Pavilion of Light – Mardyke Gardens.
The annual Irish Architecture Awards celebrate Ireland’s architectural excellence and the creative individuals behind them. The awards also showcase the quality of work being delivered by Irish Practices overseas in recent years. This year’s awards coincide with Ireland’s year of Design 2015.
One of the main focuses of the Irish Architecture Awards is to communicate to the public the value that contemporary architecture makes to society. Therefore, now in its eight year, the popular Public Choice Award gives the public the opportunity to have their say by voting for their favourite short-listed project, which has the honour of being named Ireland’s favourite building 2015.
The Public Choice Award short-list is selected by the 2015 Juries, from projects that have been entered across 16 different categories, including best commercial, best educational and best health building, best house, best house extension and best housing project, best public building, best international project, best sustainable project and best universal design. There are also awards for best research and for the best emerging practice.
The online voting is live from the 27th May until 17 June 2015 at midday.
