City Architects Division has recently supervised emergency repair works to the roof of Aldborough House, a protected structure. The building was the last great town house built in Dublin in the late C18th and is of both architectural and cultural importance.

The building was badly damaged earlier this year when vandals stripped the lead from the valleys and parapet gutters of the main house, its surviving wing and portico, causing catastrophic damage to the roof and significant damage to the interior from water ingress. Emergency repair works were carried out by Collen Construction, funded by the Department of Arts Heritage & the Gaeltacht’s Buildings at Risk Fund and by Dublin City Council. The works carried out go some way towards weatherproofing this vulnerable building until such time as the building’s owners are in a position to implement further urgent and necessary repairs in line with their statutory obligations.
