Dublin City Council’s Environment & Transportation Dept has recently established an Active Travel Network Office to deliver a programme of improved walking and cycle infrastructure across the city. City Architects are excited to be a part of this multi-disciplinary team and look forward to collaborating with engineers, landscape architects and planners to help facilitate the modal shift from car dependency to more sustainable and healthy forms of travel.
The aim of the Active Travel Network is to enhance quality of life in the city by connecting all people through the delivery of a walk-wheel-cycle network. This will be achieved by improving access, connectivity and sustainable mobility and will also contribute to a citywide reduction of transport-related carbon emissions. Over the next nine years, the active travel network will grow from its existing 10km to a connected network of 310km across the city. This transportation initiative funded by the National Transport Authority will offer a network of projects that are safer, inclusive and more sustainable.
Delivering this improved walking and cycle infrastructure across the city will also facilitate the creation of enhanced public realm opportunities. Our focus will be on public realm design to ensure new infrastructure is appropriately integrated and designed to the highest standards in terms of place-making, universal access and quality of materials.
A safer and connected active travel network will be achieved by:

Le déanaí, bhunaigh Rannóg Timpeallachta & Iompair de chuid Chomhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath, Oifig don Líonra Taistil Gníomhaigh a sheachadóidh infreastruchtúr rothaíochta agus siúil feabhsaithe ar fud na cathrach. Tá áthas ar Ailtirí na Cathrach páirt a ghlacadh san fhoireann ildisciplíneach seo agus tá siad ag súil le bheith ag comhoibriú le hinnealtóirí, le hailtirí tírdhreacha agus le pleanálaithe chun an t-aistriú a éascú ón spleáchas ar an gcarr go dtí modhanna taistil atá níos inbhuanaithe agus níos sláintiúla.
Is í an aidhm atá ag an Líonra Taistil Gníomhaigh ná caighdeán na beatha sa chathair a fheabhsú trí naisc a chruthú tríd an líonra siúil-roth-rothair. Bainfear é seo amach trí feabhas a chur ar rochtain, ar nascacht agus ar shoghluaisteacht inbhuanaithe. Beidh laghdú freisin le brath sna hastaíochtaí carbóin a bhaineann leis an iompar ar fud na cathrach. Sna naoi mbliana atá romhainn, méadóidh an líonra taistil gníomhaigh ón 10km atá ann faoi láthair go dtí líonra nasctha de 310km ar fud na cathrach. Tairgfidh an tionscnamh iompair seo, arna maoiniú ag an Údarás Náisiúnta Iompair, líonra de thionscadail atá níos sábháilte, níos ionchuimsithí agus níos inbhunaithe.
Nuair a chuirfear ar fáil an t-infreastruchtúr siúil agus rothaíochta feabhsaibhe seo, beidh sé fusa freisin deiseanna feabhsaithe sa ríocht phoiblí a chruthú. Beidh an bhéim á cur againn ar an dearadh sa ríocht phoiblí chun cinnte a dhéanamh de go mbeidh an t-infreastruchtúr nua comhtháilte go cuí agus go mbeidh sé deartha ar ardchaighdeáin maidir le comhfhorbairt áite, le rochtain atá oiriúcach do chách agus le caighdeán na n-ábhar a úsáidtear.
Bainfear amach líonra taistil gníomhaigh níos sábháilte agus níos nasctha tríd na rudaí a leanas a dhéanamh:

Is éard atá i gceist le scéimeanna eatramhacha ná bearta a chuirfidh dlús le seachadadh an líonra taistil ghníomhaigh. Soláthróidh na bearta eispéireas siúil agus rothaíochta níos sábháilte ag áiteanna cuí ar fud an líonra fad is atá scéimeanna buana á ndearadh.
