A new café at ‘The Kiosk’, Orwell Road, Rathgar, Dublin 6, has opened for business following the refurbishment and extension of buildings by Dublin City Council. Operated by Morilles Coffee, the café offers coffee and baked goods on a popular walking route along the River Dodder between Milltown and Rathfarnham.

The previously vacant kiosk and separate toilet block have been redeveloped to modern standards with a new accessible public toilet with ramp access provided.

The two existing stone buildings at the entrance to Orwell Park were connected and extended to create a larger café unit. A new glazed shopfront faces onto Orwell Road and returns along the pathway to the park to meet the existing stonework walls. An aluminium fascia wraps around the refurbished and extended building to create a cohesive finish.

The works included repairs to the structure of the existing buildings and to the stonework. The interior of the building has been insulated to boost overall thermal performance.

The redevelopment of ‘The Kiosk’ provides a positive addition to walkers and the local community.

Tá caifé nua ag ‘The Kiosk’, Bóthar Orwell, Ráth Garbh, Baile Átha Cliath 6, tar éis dul i mbun gnó tar éis do Chomhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath foirgnimh a athchóiriú agus a shíneadh. Tá an caifé á oibriú ag Morilles Coffee, agus cuireann siad caife agus earraí bácáilte ar fáil ar bhealach siúlóide a bhfuil an-tóir air feadh Abhainn na Dothra idir Baile an Mhuilinn agus Ráth Fearnáin.

Rinneadh an both agus an bloc leithris ar leith, a bhíodh folamh, a athfhorbairt go caighdeáin nua-aimseartha le leithreas poiblí nua inrochtana le rochtain rampa curtha ar fáil.

Ceanglaíodh an dá fhoirgneamh cloiche a bhí ann ag an mbealach isteach go Páirc Orwell agus leathnaíodh iad chun aonad caifé níos mó a chruthú. Tá aghaidh siopa gloinithe nua ar Bhóthar Orwell agus filleann sé feadh an chosáin go dtí an pháirc agus nascann sé leis na ballaí cloiche atá ann cheana féin. Clúdaíonn éadain alúmanaim an foirgneamh athchóirithe agus leathnaithe chun cuma chomhtháite a chruthú.

Áiríodh leis na hoibreacha deisiúcháin ar struchtúr na bhfoirgneamh a bhí ann agus ar an obair chloiche. Inslíodh taobh istigh an fhoirgnimh chun feidhmíocht theirmeach iomlán a fheabhsú.

Cuireann athfhorbairt ‘An Bhoth’ go mór leis na siúlóirí agus leis an bpobal áitiúil.
