Design Week Event: The American Public Library – Architecture and Engagement

There will be a free lecture by Kathleen James-Chakraborty at Rathmines Library at 6.oopm on Monday 4th November

Kathleen James-Chakraborty is Professor of Art History at University College Dublin and chair of the board of the Irish Architecture Foundation.  Her books include German Architecture for a Mass Audience (Routledge, 2000), Bauhaus Culture from Weimar to the Cold War (Minnesota, 2006), and the forthcoming Architecture since 1400 (Minnesota). She was educated at Yale University, to which she will return in 2015 as Vincent Scully Visiting Professor in Architectural History, and at the University of Pennsylvania.  Before coming to Dublin she taught at the University of Minnesota, the University of California Berkeley, where she was a Professor in the Department of Architecture, and the Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, where she held a Mercator Guest Professorship.  She recently held a senior fellowship from the IRCHSS to write a book on memory and postwar German architecture.
